Acidosis is a condition where the body chemistry becomes imbalanced and too acidic, this can be the cause of many health conditions.
The bodies pH level is pre-determined and anything below 7.0 is acidic and anything above pH 7.0 is alkaline and the ideal range for the body is 6.3 – 6.8. Acidosis occurs when the body has lost its alkaline reserve.
To test your acid/alkaline balance you can get a pH paper that you apply saliva to, the paper will change colour to show whether or not your system is overly acidic or overly alkaline which can lead to acidosis or alkalosis. You should not do the test until at least 1 hour after eating. You can get your pH paper here.
Your diet needs to be altered to get your body back to the normal range, you can do this by eating more alkaline-forming foods from this list until your test pH comes back as normal:
Acid forming foods:
Aspirin and most drugs
Flour based products
All foods with sugar
Low-level acid forming foods:
Seeds and nuts
Canned or glazed fruit
Dried or sulphur fruits (most)
Please note that although citrus fruits may seem to have an acidifying effect on the body, the citric acid they contain actually has an alkalinising effect in the system.
Low-level alkaline-forming foods:
Blackstrap molasses Soured dairy products
The body gets overloaded with toxins and foods that we eat, especially if the foods have been sprayed with poisons such as pesticides and herbicides. The body releases toxins through the skin but when you use soaps and lotions that aren’t organic and contain harmful chemicals that are laded with animal fats, the pores of your skin get blocked and the toxins are unable to be released.
